Victoria Park Updates
A lot of work occurred fall and winter of 2016-17, giving residents a chance to enjoy the new amenity. Work included construction of a 12’ wide paved trail along the bluff with overlook, berms to the south side of the park, and Stewart Avenue and associated parking were completed. Trees and landscaping along Stewart Avenue and the parking lot will be installed spring 2017.
In January, restoration work will begin with the intent of restoring the upper and lower bluff area as well as disturbed floodplain areas. Trees targeted for removal include buckthorn, diseased ash, and weedy trees such as black locust and Siberian elm.
Finally, an overall master plan for the future universally accessible play area was developed in 2016. The final concept plan is available on the project website in case you have not had a chance to view the vision for St. Paul’s first universally accessible play area. Visit the project website for more information.

FRF Park Committee Selects New Name - Quarry Farm Park
The committee that is proposing names for Victoria Park has come up with names for the park and some of the places in it. They have selected “Quarry Farm Park” for the name of the overall park, reflecting its history as both a quarry and a farm. Some of the places inside Quarry Farm Park have been named as well, including: •
Main bluff overlook: Bald Eagle Overlook
• Foundations/quarry bins: Stockman’s Rest
• Downhill Path: Ferry Hill Road
• Path from Shepard: Old Fort Road
• South Pond: Shrub Carr Pond
• Birding Area: Darwin Downs
The main name change will go before the City Council, the internal ones are or the Parks Department to approve.
Victoria Park is a 35 acre site between Montreal Way, Adrian St., S. Victoria and the river bluff. The park will have a number of features and amenities including open space, trails, three wetland areas, an amphitheater, picnic areas, rest area and native prairie plantings.
The committee of the Fort Road Federation charged with the renaming, sought suggestions from the neighborhood. The goal was for the overall name of the park to be an encompassing phrase, names of features (such as ponds, trails, etc.) or amenities (like picnic area, playgrounds, gardens) would be more specific. .

St. Paul's former Schmidt brewery to welcome tenants soon
The $120 million renovation of St. Paul’s landmark Schmidt property should be complete by May 2014. It’s now a bit easier to picture artists living and creating their art in a place where Schmidt, Grain Belt and Pig’s Eye beer were once brewed along St. Paul’s blue-collar W. 7th Street corridor. Much of the massive 15-acre site — home to the former Schmidt Brewery — has been cleared, abated, shored up and renovated in a $120 million redevelopment project that calls for 247 residential units and 13 new townhouses. So much so that the first residents are slated to move into the former bottling house this November, with the entire project slated for completion by May 2014. More...
